Documenting Rare Species

The platform has built-in intelligence that flags rare birds and enables you to add comments and photos. The system defines a rare species based on how often it has been seen in a circle, using eBird data. Documentation for a rare species is completed as part of the count data submission process. You can review the full submission process here for Compilers and here for anyone using the online form.

During submission, if you enter a number in the rare species box, a pop-up will ask for a detailed comment describing how you identified the bird. Please detail the diagnostic markings or sounds you observed. You can also upload any photos that document your observation.

Click Complete to save this to your submission.
