Roles: Counting Party Leaders, Sector Leaders, Community Engagement Leaders

You don't need a data platform account to submit data via the online data submission form. If you have a data platform account, use these instructions: Entering Count Data Using the Data Platform.

Submit data at cbc.audubon.org/submit.

To add data for your count using the online form, do the following:

  1. Enter your email address and click Send Verification Code. A 6-digit code is sent to your email.

  2. Check your email to get the code, enter it on the screen, and click Verify my email.

3. Complete the first screen, including the following:

  • Circle: Either enter the name or four-digit code (e.g. NYGE) of the circle, or use the Circle Finder.

  • Sector/Zone/Area - Enter data here to improve data quality if sectors are used in your circle.

  • Count Type – Use the dropdown to select Field, Feeder, or Nocturnal.

  • Submitter Name: Name of the individual entering the data into the form. This may or may not be the person who originally collected the data.

  • Comment – Use to enter any information that may be helpful to the Compiler of your count. If you collected a checklist that spanned multiple modes of travel, please leave a note about this for the Compiler.

4. Click Continue. A dialog box is displayed.

5. Select Enter Your Count Data, and do the following:

Step 1: Enter Effort Information

Complete the following fields:

  • Number of parties

  • Number of participants

  • Overall start and end times

  • Total distance and time for each mode of travel used

If your group used more than one travel mode, you can add each additional one separately by doing the following:

  • Select Add Additional Travel Mode to add another travel mode.

  • Enter the total distance and time for each mode of travel.

  • Add as many travel modes as needed.

Step 2: Enter Bird Counts (Species)

Enter the number of birds seen for each species in the bird list.

NOTE: By default, the bird list displays the species most frequently seen in your circle area at the top. Change how the bird list is sorted by doing the following:

  • Use the drop-down menu in the upper-right corner of the bird list.

  • Choose how you’d like to sort the list of birds.

Step 3: Provide Details for Rare Species if Necessary

If you report a rare species, the system will ask for additional information.

NOTE: The system defines rare birds based on how frequently that species has been seen in your circle.

  1. After you enter a number for a rare species, a dialog box is displayed.

  2. Do the following:

  • Provide additional details about the observation.

  • Add available media, if applicable.

More information about documenting rare species can be found here.

3. Click Continue to review your data.

4. Once you have reviewed your data, click Submit.

You'll receive an email with a summary of the data you submitted.
